Tarabya Apartment Remodelling
Tarabya - İstanbul
This duplex residence located in the town of Tarabya was an amalgam of three separate apartments, however without overall planning and lacking the sense of a coherent single living unit. The formal spaces of the apartment like the entrance hall or the living spaces like kitchen, living room, study room and the utility rooms were reorganized within the total usable area of 225m².
The impact of the low ceiling - covering the exposed beams showing the original space division of former three separate units - was eliminated by taking down the suspended ceilings and revealing the original high ceilings. The revealed exposed beams were treated as an architectural element. An open kitchen was designed with a concealed passage from the entrance hall adding an element of surprise to the circulation within the apartment. The layout of the rooms and the stairs were also redesigned. The new architectural conception was emphasized by white painted walls, epoxy painted floors and continuous oak parquet wood floorings.
