Alaçatı Süreyya and Muzaffer Baskıcı Mosque
Alaçatı - İzmir
The Mosque reinterprets traditional architecture with a contemporary approach focused on spatial clarity and contextual harmony. Designed to accommodate 360 person indoors, it features a reflecting pool along the mihrab wall and a reading area opening toward the adjoining park. The courtyard, defined by a wide eave, includes separate zones for entrance and outdoor prayer, complemented by an ablution fountain, mortuary unit, and imam’s residence.
As part of the Alaçatı Historical Windmills Sculpture Park and Entrance Square Urban Design Project, the mosque integrates seamlessly with the surrounding bazaar, square, green areas, and pedestrian routes. Positioned at the entrance of the district, it serves as a new civic and cultural focal point. The project was initiated after the Alaçatı Historical Bazaar Mosque - originally a 19th-century church later converted into a mosque - was transformed into a museum under the Ministry of Tourism.
