Alaçatı Windmills Sculpture Park

Ancient windmills are indispensable to the Aegean landscape. The whole district was the subject of a comprehensive urban renewal project dating back to 2007. “The Alaçatı Windmills Park and Entrance Square and Promenade Project” by UrbAr was part of this process and foresaw the restoration of the ancient windmills. This also included the designated space around them, which was to be transformed into a cultural landscape, open for public use. The first phase included a new promenade, an urban square and several shops or restaurants. It was completed in 2009.

The second phase of the project was called “Windmills Park” and included the renewal of the area around the historic windmills together with the restoration of the windmill structures. Structural works were completed in 2013 with soft landscaping following in 2015.
