Izmir Light Rapid Suburban Rail - Transfer Center Site Planning Project

Aliağa - Cumaovası

The renovation of the underutilized Aliağa - Basmane and Cumaovası - Alsancak Suburban railway lines will be executed with collaboration of the Municipality of Metropolitan Izmir and Turkish State Railways. The project was prepared , in coordination with the Municipality of Metropolitan Izmir, for 7 new or upgraded ‘Light Rapid Rail Stations’: Egekent, Şemikler, Salhane, Kemer, Şirinyer, Semtgarajı and Sarnıç. The basis of the project is the ‘Integrated Ticketing System’ that allows transfers between different modes of public transportation and cars by means of station parking facilities. The site plans were prepared in coordination with the Directorate of Transportation Planning; delineating bus, minibus and car routes, incorporating the amount of traffic that will be generated, estimated by the ‘Metropolitan Transportation Study Report’. The site planning of the transfer centers moreover were conceptualized as urban design projects, based on the idea that the stations will become social spaces and should be expected to influence the future development of the surrounding environment.
