Historic Ankara House Restoration
Inner Castle - Ankara
The historical mansion located in the Kaleiçi neighborhood of Ankara was restored with a guest house function. The historical mansion, at the beginning of the project, had collapsed economically, lost its spatial characteristics and its structural elements were rotten. As the mansion was renewed, the spatial configuration was unearthed and the restoration project was developed to recreate thus. While the newly added functions of the mansion were placed in the basement, the spaces were restored, with details designed and completed with traditional wood workmanship.
The restoration of the historic mansion departs from two different approaches that are conventional and sometimes contradictory: adopting restoration practices aimed at reverting the historical structures to the ideal time frame, or to preserve the craftsmanship and constructions of historic buildings, The application is therefor the product of an architectural thought and general approach that restores the renewed historical texture without any pretensions.
